Pros:This is an awesome, minimalistic case for those like me who don't want something flashy and alien-looking. It's small enough to fit in most places and none of the ventilation is set on the sides, making it pretty reasonable to place anywhere depending on what you're doing with it.The designers were pretty clever about maximizing space. I crammed a MSI GTX 970 in here, along with a bulky CPU cooler (Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO) and a modular power supply with bulky cables (Corsair AX760), and I had no real problems fitting everything in.Cons:The power/reset switches and external ports are awkwardly positioned on the side door. All but the USB 3.0 ports are easily unpluggable from the door when you take it off, but thankfully the cable for the USB is pretty long, so you can lay the panel down once you unplug the other stuff. The power supply mounting is a little wonky, too. The case has a right-angle C13 (PC power supply) connector fed into the little well in the bottom of the case where the power supply gets mounted, but the cable is 18AWG 10A125V and may not be adequate for many high-performance power supplies. This presented a big challenge for me because I couldn't even fit the connector into the plug on the power supply, so I had to remove the provided cable entirely. I ordered a couple right-angle 16AWG power cables that I hope will work, but temporarily I've been using the power cable that came with my power supply, which requires me to prop up the front of the case so the cable can fit underneath.Overall Review:Great case!
As long as the new power cables solve the issue, I'll be sticking with this one for awhile. Everything is kept nice and cool (CPU Idle: 25 Peak load: 50)Specs:MSI Z97M Motherboard (Micro ATX)Intel Core i5-4590 @ 3.3GhzMSI GeForce GTX 970 Twin Frozr (HUGE card)16GB (2 x 8) Corsair Vengeance DDR3Corsair AX760 Modular PSUSamsung 850 EVO 250GB SSDWD Black Edition 500GB HDD. Pros:This case is built like a tank and has a soft touch finish. It looks great if you want a more subtle looking case with no window. It holds a decent amount of hardware for its size.Cons:The ventilation of the case is not fantastic but it works. I contacted their customer support with a question and never heard back.Overall Review:This case is great if you want a very high quality build that will look good in an office or home.
It is not flashy with lights and windows. It is not the best choice if you want to go SLI/Crossfire because the top video card (your mb is mounted inverted so video cards are at the top of the case) is very close to the vents. I installed slim 15mm fans above the case frame but under the dust filter and they works great while offering some extra room inside the case. I bought this to make a SLI X99 gaming machine but ended up with it as my work case in the office.I have also owned the Corsair AIR 240 and 540 and Fractal Design Node 804. This case is of much higher build quality, has a more subtle appearance, and is the most minimalistic MATX case I have owned.
Pros:It looks nice and built well but that's where it stopsCons:I am sure that three bozos designed this case. While it's built nice and looks pretty the noodle heads that came up with this awkward case didn't put the installer in mind.
There is SO much wrong with this thing I will try to elaborate more.#1 - Instead of putting the buttons on the front of the case like normal cases have, they put them on the removable panel so that you have to juggle the case cover in one hand while you attach the external button, USB and sound plugs. Whats worse is that they are now located on the side.#2 There is NO access to the power supply power switch. They mounted the power supply inside the case on some ridiculous carriage that you can't even get to the mounting screws.#3 There is no access to the CD/DVD drive from the outside. While they put in a slot in the front of the case, the case cover goes over the front of the drive (how dumb is that?)#4 The fans are mounted on the bottom of the case inside so you had better strap up all your cables properly because they could easily land on the fans on the inside of the case at the bottom AND there is no space under the case for the fans to bring in fresh air. They have some silly plate mounted on the bottom.#5 No access to the motherboard without taking out the plate that holds the hard drives.Overall Review:This was the worse case I ever had to deal with and if it wasn't for the fact that the customer wanted a white case I would have returned it. To top everything off the goobers at the factory only put three feet on the bottom so I am missing one.
I have to use nice words on this review but believe me I was cussing up a storm putting this together. Pros:Perfect look I was going for. Ton of options for various power builds. The Phoenix Logo in the front does not light up- happy about that.
Subtle blue led's (disk activity, power) on the side. Tool less design on the important parts (getting into the case, expansion cards, power supply install).
Small touches (no sharp edges, etc) make this one of the best case purchases I have made. Regular ATX power supply that when installed pulls air directly from the front through the bottom and away from my internal components. Case fans are whisper silent. Actually not even a whisper, i can't hear anything, even my internal components (sound card, cpu fan, etc). Which is surprising considering the top panel is just a mesh protector exposing the inside.Cons:This is not the case for a person that likes to go into their case and futz about a lot.
I have one drive at the moment, but the hard drive panel wall for additional sad options screws in place and obstructs access to the MB. The front panel wires (and thus, my one SSD drive) are tethered to the side panel making opening up and configuring a very careful chore. Due to the compact design and expansion options / configurations support I don't see how the engineers could have done different. So no eggs docked.
Just be aware to take your time and get it the way you want it, then seal it up.Overall Review:While waiting for it to arrive, I suggest watching some youtube videos to get a feel for the install. Take your time and think through the install as you go along. The first thing I did after removing all the packaging is figured out how the power supply goes in then removed it so I could install the motherboard with enough room for me to put in the motherboard screws. I then installed the power supply and it's connections, then the fan connections. I needed to plug in the panel connections (power, led, USB etc) first, then the PCI-e cards (video, wireless card) which was tricky since the side panel then becomes tethered to the MB and it becomes awkward on where to rest it while installing your expansion cards. Pros:This case can hold 5 3.5' drives and 2 2.5' drives total.
This makes it a great case to use as a file server. There is room for a tall CPU heatsink and fan. I am very happy with the case.Cons:Just remember: there is no external 5.25' drive.
Also remember to check the measurements. I didn't and it was bigger than I thought. Although it can hold 5 3.5' drives, it is not hot-swap friendly. Installing a power supply is a little tricky. And the manual is pathetic.
I had to figure most everything out on my own.Overall Review:The case came with a fan at the bottom. I move the fan to the top of the case and put 2 drives at the bottom. Like someone else said, I also put the side doors on backwards so that the power button faces the motherboard side. This worked out great in keeping my cables organized. Pros:Fun case. Very different and a little challenging but I do like how everything fit once it was done.Specs:MSI MATX FM2+ Gaming moboMSI Gaming r9 280 3g Video CardGSkill Sniper 2133 8GBAthlon X4 ProcessorCorsiar H60 CPU cooler (Push Pull)Cons:Bitfenix support is AWFUL. The case came with a bad internal power cord.
I messaged Bitfenix tech support more than a week ago to try and remedy the problem. I have heard nothing.2 days ago I placed another ticket (they say someone will contact you within 48 hours). Well I have still heard nothing from them.Looks like no more Bitfenix products for me.Overall Review:Building my new PC with this case was fun and challenging. I like how it looks now that it is finished.Cable management is a nightmare! Pros:-Sleek look-Solid construction-Thumbscrews in many places-Lots of extra screws-An abundance of air flow options-An abundance of space for drives.Cons:Hard to work with, optical drive blocked are worth subtractions of eggs.
This case is a re-imagination of case design, which would be cool if it remained practical. If you want to access an optical drive in this case system, you're going to have to remove the front bezel to do so. But wait, to remove the front bezel, you must first remove both side panels! One of the side panels has wires attached to various points inside your case, so you have to be careful!Upside-down construction was a bit goofy, Whereas normally I'd be building it in my sleep, I needed to use the manual.-The wire management options are few, as the case hugs the mobo, there aren't holes and grommets for the cords come around from the back like there are in, say, the 350D. The wire managed pic is a fiction. This isn't worth an egg, because no window, but don't expect a clean wire managed build. Not fun to have to open this puppy up.Overall Review:I wanted to buy a cute little case with a little expandability.
I got a fairly chunky case that was both complicated to build and had zero wire management. Also the Softouch material looks like it will absorb rather than repel abuse from the kids, I wonder if washable markers might leave indelible marks in it - guess we'll see. I just really admire what BitFenix had done, but this case has turned out to be a bit of a compromise between beauty and praticality. It is a gorgeous case and we pretty much placed it where it can be displayed. You could still make this an HTPC, but just remember you will need an external optical drive OR leave the front Bezel off all the time.I guess the flexcage is sold separately. SuperSpeed USB 3.0 - Two ports included for blazing file transfers. BitFenix SofTouch Surface Treatment - Luxurious matte finish and soft feel. Trouble-free Installation - Large CPU cooler cutout, cable management and heat shield. Pros:-Pretty volumes for the size, and supports multiple fan configurations-Looks great and has a quality premium feel-Pretty small and compactCons:-The drive mounts are in odd places and can come at the expense of how many fans you choose to install-3.5' drive mounts are sort of in odd places, particularly in the top, should you choose to mount a drive there, you will have to forgo a second fan on the top, so keep that in mind.
(I'm avoiding this problem by using 2.5' drives)-There are also wires on the main panel used to access the inside of the case, that connect directly to the motherboard, so it's awkward, to say the least, and probably not ideal for cable management, however, the side panels can be switched, so I just did thatOverall Review:-Though it looks like I had a lot for complaints, I still really love this case, and would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a smaller case for their mATX build-Great quality and feel, if it weren't for those odd trade-offs, I would hands-down give it 5-stars. Pros:Great finish, and sleek design.lots of HDD and SDD mounting optionsFront panel can be swapped to either side, very niceTop filter is easy to remove and clean off the combined fur from three cats and two dogs.Cons:Should come with a full size fan. Just my opinion.A front mounted fan is near useless. Front cover is very restrictiveMight be larger than you need if you're going to build a simple mATX setup.Overall Review:I've stuffed this case with massive full size PSU, long video cards, and 4 HDD, and 3 SSD, a bottom fan, top fans.It all fit beautifully and was super easy.Love the top mount fan filter. I have the flow coming in the top dual fans and out the bottom massive fan. Pros:- Looks good- Quality seems to be decent; pretty sturdy- Smallish form factor- Air flow seems to be pretty goodCons:- I don't know if it's just me, but I thought this case was pretty hard to build in.
Much more difficult to build in than my last case.- Limited space to work with, but that's probably expected due to the Micro ATX form factor.- A real gripe I have with this case is the fact that the engineers over at BitFenix chose to place the on/off switch, reset switch, and HDD LED on the side panel. This makes it a bit harder to work with.Overall Review:- I would recommend this product to anyone who wants a good-looking case and doesn't mind the extra hassle- I probably wouldn't buy this case again, but only because 'Been there, done that'.- I am overall pretty satisfied with this case. Pros:Compact SizeEasy to CarryVery SolidLots of Set Up OptionsSoft-Touch Finish/CoatingCons:Cable management takes some thinkingHeavy for its size (But its a fair trade off for durability)Overall Review:This case is not for those looking for a quick build. It takes a good amount of planning to figure out how to arrange your components in the most effective way.
However, if you accept the challenge you can end up with a very nice looking compact build. This is not my first BitFenix case, but it was the most challenging. I highly recommend all of their products. Also, I have been read a few complaints that if you swap the side panels you have to live with an upside down power/reset switch and that is NOT the case. Simply unscrewing the switches from the panel allows you to flip the plastic cover over and make it right side up. Pros:- Compact- Multiple customizable airflow configurations- Excellent overall airflow- Beautiful soft-touch finish- Very nice build quality- Fit and finish- Cube-like designCons:- That d.mn side panel- Hard drive mounting bar has to be removed every time you want to get in to the motherboard if you have drives on it.Overall Review:This a beautiful, compact, high quality, high airflow, and highly customizable case. It is possibly one of my favorite cases ever - however - the more I work with it, the more I hate the side panel, which contains all of the typical 'front panel' connectors, and the slots for the 2.5' drives.
Every time you open the case, you have to make a decision to either disconnect the drives from the side panel and then lay the panel in some way on the case that isn't straining the front panel connectors, or totally disconnect the front panel connectors from the motherboard so you can totally pull the panel off and then re-attach all of the tiny little front panel jumpers when you're done. I just don't understand why, if you're going to make a side panel this functional, it wouldn't be on the OTHER side of the case (you know, behind the motherboard) instead of the most opened panel on the whole case.
That being said, if you can put up with that issue, then this is still a beautiful case to use and work with. The soft touch finish is almost like a rubberized metal, and is silky smooth to the touch. You have to be very careful when maneuvering the side panel to not scratch it. The motherboard actually mounts upside down in this case, which isn't really a pro or a con either way, it's just something to keep in mind.
You will be pretty pressed for space on the rear 140mm exhaust vent if you have a large CPU cooler, and you will probably be unable to mount the larger 230mm Bitfenix Spectre or Spectre Pro's if you have a large CPU cooler either, due to the upside-down orientation of the motherboard and CPU. I didn't find this to be an issue however, because I am using a stock heatsink. If you do add a Bitfenix Spectre Pro 230mm fan in the bottom fan slot and turn on the LED's, it gives a nice subtle glow to the case, which is pretty cool. I went for the green LED's to give it some slick aesthetics. All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase, I would just suggest this for a more build-once-and-done type of build instead of one you think you may be pulling components in and out of a few times to get a perfect config. There are other places in the case where you can mount 3.5' and 2.5' drives, and I would suggest using those over mounting the drives to the side panel or hard drive bar so that you can simply remove the bar from the case and not have to worry about it. Pros:Small footprintGood airflowEasy to disassembleBuild quality is top notch - definitely not cheaply madeside doors are heavy and durableRoom for large Graphics cards!
Using Gigabyte 770 4GB Windforcefully modular PSU recommended and possibly cutting down/shortening cables to reduce clutter.Cons:PSU right angle power cable was tough to get in as I had to bend it sharply, might have been the PSU power socket was reversed?Side door panel with I/O, although is reversible does make taking side door off a hurdle. I moved my I/O panel to the left side, Also flipped the Power/Reset buttons so they were no longer upside down.Small case (not a con as I wanted as small as possible) so everything will be tight if you have bigger hands like me.
I think I did pretty good with the cable managing.Looks like there's mounts for various size fans on the front for 120-140-200-230mm fan but PSU is in the way? Look below as it would be cool to mount a fan on the outside of the case behind the front cover to blow air towards the GPUs.Overall Review:I installed a Corsair H100i and didn't want to block my PCIe slot for future SLI so I removed the top cover and mounted the radiator on top with the fans inside the case pushing air out(exhaust). This did require some cutting of the metal on the case up top for the radiator and hoses to fit. Also had to cut the plastic around the top cover, like the tabs that hold the screen on but that's no longer used anyways. The radiator sits flush with the top of the case. Wouldn't have mind a mobo tray split down the middle of the case with the PSU and hard drive caddies back there too?
Might custom mod it like that anyways.4770k w/ Corsair H100iMSI Z97m Gaming mobo8GB HyperX BeastOCZ Agility 3 480GB SSDGigabyte GTX 770 4GB WindforceSeasonic SS-660XP2Suggestion to Bitfenix if you read this? If you could somehow make a new front and top cover with a little bit more room in them, it would make it easier to mount more fans/radiators without taking up room inside the case. I'd love to be able to mount a fan as intake on the outside of the case so I can blow air directly onto my GPUs. Just if they were 1/2'-3/4' longer would be ideal or even larger sizes to house a push/rad/pull setup. Pros:This is a very efficient design, and very versatile.
I have mine configured as a NAS with RAID level 10 and everything fits in neatly. It is a very clean design and fits in nicely in my living room next to my entertainment center. The case is very sturdy and the top intake fans have a easily removable mesh. The side panel usb ports/power buttons help to keep a very clean look. The rubberized finish is nice too. Reminds me of the finish on my alienware laptop.Cons:The case is set up very differently than any other case I have worked with, so it took me a while to get everything to fit in properly.
It becomes a very tight fit, and if you don't put everything in in the right order, you will be taking it all back out again. If you are using a standard ATX power supply, you will not be able to mount a fan to the front of the case. Also, unless you have a very slim fan, you cannot mount your fans in the recessed area under the filter, you must mount them further inside the case, meaning you loose a couple of inches of clearance.
Also, there is not much room for cable management. Once the case is together though, this thing is amazing.Overall Review:overall, i think this is an amazing case, even if it is a little hard to get everything in just right. I followed Joanne's advice in the demo video and flipped the side panels and it makes things a lot easier!
